US National Science Foundation Young Scholars Travel Award


Several Geography graduate students and junior faculty recently won top competitive travel awards of $1600 each, funded by the NSF and awarded through the United States National Committee of the International Cartographic Association. The awards were based on abstracts of papers to be presented at the 22nd Annual Meeting of the International Cartographic Association (ICA 2005) which will take place in A Coruña, Spain 11-16 July. Recipients and abstract titles include.

  • Sarah Battersby, Grad Student Map projection and global-scale spatial cognition: Issues in psychophysical estimation.
  • Sara Fabrikant, Junior Faculty Thematic relevance and perceptual salience of dynamic geovisualization displays.
  • Kirk Goldsberry, Grad Student Limitations and potentials of real-time traffic visualization.
  • Matt Rice, Grad Student Authentication, characterization, and control methods for cartographic data.
