Undergrad Wins ESRI Internship

James Scott Prindle (“Scott” to his friends) has just been awarded an ESRI Summer Internship in Redlands, CA. Each year, the Environmental Systems Research Institute awards internships to “the best and brightest” undergraduate and master’s-level students. Internships are paid positions lasting up to 12 weeks, and ESRI program coordinators match recipient’s education and interests with open internships in areas ranging from software development and GIS services to marketing, accounting, and educational services: “Pay is just one of the benefits of being an ESRI intern. An internship with us is an opportunity to be associated with the world’s leading developer of GIS software and work alongside top-notch staff. You’ll gain personal and professional skills that will give you an edge in the workplace after graduation. Interns often are able to take free software training courses in our Learning Center and spend a day at the annual ESRI International User Conference. An internship is also a great opportunity to network with students from across the U.S. whether working together on a team project or through planned social activities” http://careers.esri.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=dsp&tmpl=internships.cfm&nav_id=7.

Scott is a UCSB senior who hales from Newbury Park, CA. He will graduate in June with a double major in Geography and Psychology, and he comments: “I hope to expand on this internship and continue on developing a fondness for GIS and geography as a whole, through work and hopefully graduate school.” The Department of Geography wishes him well and is proud to have encouraged him to pursue the discipline.
