Three Geography Professors Bring in Grants


As published in the UCSB faculty and staff newspaper 93106, three of our professors recently brought in significant grants for research. As part of ICESS (Institute for Computational Earth Science), Catherine Gautier, with W. J. O’Hirok, received $660,000 from the Energy Department to study “Understanding Radiative Processes in Realistic Cloud and Aerosol Distributions.” Dar Roberts received $27,000 from the UC Institute of Geophysics and Planetary Physics for “Spectral Unmixing of Multispectral Thermal Imager Data.” Ray Smith, for ICESS, received $96,000 from the Virginia Institute of Marine Science to study “Long-Term Ecological Research on the Antarctic Marine Ecosystem: Climate Migration, Ecosystem Response and Teleconnections in an Ice-Dominated Environment.”
