The First Annual Estes Memorial Teaching Award Presented to Roger M. Hoffer


The Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) created and funded the Estes Memorial Teaching Award in honor of UCSB Geography’s professor John “Jack” E. Estes. Jack died March 9, 2001. The award is given “to recognize individual achievement in the promotion of remote sensing and GIS technology and applications through educational efforts.” * The first recipient of the award is Roger M. Hoffer, who is a retired professor of remote sensing and the retired director of the Remote Sensing & GIs Program of the Department of Forest Sciences, Colorado State University, Fort Collins, Colorado. Hoffer was given a monetary award and a plaque during the annual conference of the American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing held May 5-9, 2003 in Anchorage, Alaska.
