Bianca Graves is a fourth year Geography BA major and says that Dr. Cassels is one of her favorite professors.
She is the Co-President of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), which is a professional club for black Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) majors.
Since her freshman year, Bianca has also volunteered and collaborated with Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement (MESA), which is a statewide K-12 and collegiate program to get a lot of first generation, low income, and/or underrepresented groups into STEM. She often works with kids and judges their robotics competitions as well as provides mentorship.
Bianca is also part of MESA-MEP which is a UCSB undergraduate retention program for students who are first generation college students within STEM field majors. Bianca states that MESA allows for her club to collaborate with other cultural and professional STEM clubs.
Bianca is also a UCSB Smithsonian Scholar, which is a partnership with the Smithsonian Institute to get STEM students involved in conservation biology. In addition to all this, Bianca is also now a GIS intern at the MARC lab and is working with Arc GIS online.
