In conjunction with his recent Geography 176C class (GIS Design and Application), Jeff Howarth organized an optional field trip to Santa Cruz Island over the Memorial Day weekend. In the course, the students developed new datasets for Santa Cruz Island, digitizing hardcopy maps of geology, vegetation, and land use, and they then used these datasets in the latter portion of the course in various GIS projects. A total of 22 Geography and Geology personnel participated in the field trip, and Dr. Sara Fabrikant took lots of pictures of the expedition.
