Professor Ray Smith, who has been with the Department since 1981, received the Nils Jerlov Award this year, which is in recognition of contribution made to the advancement of knowledge of the nature and consequences of light in the ocean. The award is issued once every two years, and Ray is the second person to have received it. Professor Tommy Dickey gave the nominating speech, which is available on-line as a Word document.
