In a biennial publication of UC’s Office of Research titled NASA: A Report on NASA at the University of California, Oliver Chadwick and Dar Roberts’ research on Amazonia is featured. Using NASA grants and satellite imaging, Oliver and Dar have been tackling the problem of monitoring the degradation of the Amazon basin. “Keeping track of these changes over immense tracts of land with almost no historical land-use records seems like an impossible task; yet to understand the Earth’s carbon and nutrient balance, we must document what is happening to Amazonia,” Oliver is quoted as saying.
