Jason Davis Wins Student Paper Competition

Graduate student Jason Davis (PhD expected 2009) was selected as the Latin American Specialty Group’s Student Paper Competition winner and received honorable mention by the Population Specialty Group at this year’s annual AAG conference. The title of Jason’s paper is, “Flowing Wealth, Circulating Labor and Reproduction in Central American and Caribbean Households.” This paper reflects the first phase of Jason’s endeavor to understand how international migration and remittance flows influence lifestyle patterns in Central American and Caribbean households. The paper concludes that international migration has little influence on fertility outcomes while remittance flows lead to an increase in fertility. Jason’s doctoral dissertation committee includes David Carr, Hallie Eakin, and Stuart Sweeney (UCSB Geography) and Ron Lee (UC Berkeley Demography/Economics). (Article contributed by David Carr)
