Inauguration of Spatial@UCSB – Perspectives for Teaching and Research


Program for Thursday, May 29, 2008 (Corwin Pavilion, University Center, UCSB): “Connecting Our Region through GIS and Geospatial Technologies”

11:00 am – 2:00 pm: Open house of the Imaging, Interaction & Innovative Interfaces Lab (Four-Eyes) and the Allosphere (a 3-D immersion environment).

2:00 pm: Poster displays and light refreshments. An exhibit of more than 50 posters on applications of GIS and spatial thinking by agencies and organizations from across southern California (at the Corwin Pavilion) and by researchers from UCSB. See some of the regional projects under way that use spatial thinking, GIS, and geospatial technologies, and meet and network with the people involved.

Introduction by Michael Goodchild, Director, spatial@ucsb

Remarks by Shoreh Elhami, Co-founder and Chair, GISCorps, on “Meeting society’s map and spatial-information needs”

Remarks by Jack Dangermond, President, ESRI, the world’s leading producer of GIS software
