The Geography Department was shocked and saddened to learn of the recent death of one of our staff, Dolores Cardenas. Dolores was responsible for departmental purchasing, travel, and recharges. She previously held a similar staff position at the Institute for Computational Earth System Science (ICESS) where she worked for a year before taking leave to become a professional hairdresser.
After joining our Department, Dolores continued to work as a hairdresser at Salon Monaco in Carpinteria on Saturdays. Crescent LoMonaco, the salon owner, echoed our sentiments by commenting that “everyone that ever met Dolores fell in love with her! She was so fun, kind, talented, loyal and trustworthy. She lived everyday to the fullest! I just cannot believe she’s gone. Anyone who ever knew Dolores will be deeply saddened to lose her. She was our ‘Baby D!’”
A service for Dolores will be held at St. Raphael’s Church, 5444 Hollister Avenue, Goleta, on Monday, August 28, at 10:00 am, and, as a token of respect for our “Baby D,” the Department will be closed that day from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm to allow members to attend.
