Geography PhD Students Song Gao and Yingjie Hu were recently presented the 2015 National Award for Outstanding Chinese PhD Students Study Abroad from the China Government Scholarship Council (CSC). Only three UCSB doctoral students received the award this year, two of which we are proud to say are from our own department. Only 500 students, all with remarkable academic achievements across multidisciplinary domains, received this award worldwide.

The awards ceremony was held at the Consulate General of China, in Los Angeles.  Song gave a speech as a representative for award recipients.  In addition, both Yingjie and Song were awarded the Chinese-American Engineers and Scientists Association of Southern California (CESASC) Scholarship. They had the opportunity to meet with Chinese Consul General and UCSB Chancellor Henry Yang.

Congratulations, Yingjie and Song!
