Graduate Fundraisers for AAG Party

Grad students Micah Brachman, Gargi Chaudhuri, and Indy Hurt are organizing a UCSB Geography Department “Event” in conjunction with this year’s Annual AAG Meeting in Las Vegas, March 22-27. “Due to budget cuts, we’ve taken it upon ourselves to organize several fundraisers on campus. Look out for us while we hold bake sales, car washes, and auctions over the next few weeks.” The “event” will be a cross between a departmental party and an alumni reunion and will be held at the Peppermill Fireside Lounge (next to the Riviera Hotel) on March 25th, 5:30pm to 8:30pm: “You can expect a quite memorable 70’s theme event – all polyester is welcome.”

Because of the budget crisis, Mike Goodchild suggested that the grads contact alumni and faculty for donations—and Indy did just that: “If you’d like to donate to our cause, you can do so via www.ucsbgeography.blogspot.com. I’d like to thank our very first sponsor, Aiki Labs in Bethesda Maryland (www.aikilabs.com). Catherine Dibble, the president and founding senior research scientist of Aiki Labs is one of our alumna and the first to test www.ucsbgeography.blogspot.com for us. Tremendous Thanks! We’d also like to thank Mike Goodchild for his generous offer to match a portion of all donations.” Go, grads!
