Golledge Distinguished Lecture


Dr. Barbara P. Buttenfield gave the 22nd Golledge Distinguished Lecture on Multiple Representations of Geospatial Data: A Cartographic Search for the Holy Grail April 14, followed by Internal and Relative Topologies for Multi-Resolution Vector Data, a brown bag lecture the following day that continued the theme of multiple representations of vector data.

Dr. Buttenfield was an original Co-Principal Investigator for the NSF-funded National Center for Geographic Information and Analysis (NCGIA), leading research initiatives on “Multiple Representations,”“Formalizing Cartographic Knowledge,”and “Visualizing Spatial Data Quality.”In collaboration with UCSB, she also led the User Interface Evaluation team for the first four years of the Alexandria Digital Library Project. Dr. Buttenfield is currently Professor and Associate Chair of Geography at the University of Colorado in Boulder and Director of the Meridian Lab, a research facility focusing on visualization and modeling of geographic information and technology. She teaches courses in Geographic Information Science, Cartography, and Information Design.
