Geography E-Newsletter Sent

The UCSB Department of Geography’s second E-Newsletter went out on March 23 to a select group of 326 friends of Geography who have elected to be on our mailing list. By the way, apologies are in order for the double mailing – the editor learned the hard way that simply changing the textual content of a hot link doesn’t change the link itself. You also may have noticed that the list of recipients is “undisclosed”—this is to ensure recipient privacy and to prevent the mailings from turning into some sort of LISTSERV which might result in multiple, and often unwanted, cross mailings. A pdf of the Newsletter can be found here.

Geography News is a biannual production, and mailings occur in March and November each year—and, yes, both dates are calculated to encourage donations to the Department (just before Christmas and just before tax filing). The content of each Newsletter revolves around major news items since the last mailing and also includes standard items such as a letter from our Chair, a thank you to recent donors, a featured alumnus/alumna, and, at times, a humor spot or a “did you know?” item. Future editions will also include news items from San Diego State University’s Department of Geography which has a joint PhD program with us. If you have a submission of your own, suggestions about further inclusions, or any other comments, corrections, or catcalls, please contact the editor, Bill Norrington, at billn@geog.ucsb.edu.
