Geographers Helping Solve Campus Budget Woes

In response to the State revenue shortfalls, UCSB Chancellor Henry Yang set up a Budget Committee to “develop a set of principles and actions that will achieve the budget reductions in the near term, and establish a framework for fiscal stability in the long term.” Geography professor Joel Michaelsen, who is also Chair of the Academic Senate’s Council on Planning and Budget, is co-chair (with Gene Lucas) of this new Coordinating Committee on Budget Strategy. One of the fourteen committee members is Geography graduate student Edward Collins, who is also Graduate Student Association President. Thank you, Joel and Ed, for working on this challenge.
