Alumnus Takes Second Prize at ESRI Conference

David Fleishman recently graduated with a BA in Geography (GIS Emphasis) and left UCSB in style – not only was he awarded “Outstanding Achievement as a Geography Major” (awarded to students graduating with a grade point average of 3.5 or higher), but he attended the 2007 ESRI International User Conference in June and took second prize in the “Where in the World?” contest. No small feat, considering the fact that The ESRI UC is the largest conference in the world devoted to GIS.

The contest consisted of correctly identifying Quickbird satellite scenes such as the one above (the coast of Namibia, in case you didn’t know). As second place winner, David received a free QuickBird satellite scene of his choice available from the DigitalGlobe Image Library along with a Trimble Juno ST handheld field computer. The first place winner also received a free QuickBird satellite scene, along with an Xplore Technologies iX104C2V Rugged Tablet PC. Congratulations to David – we anticipate hearing more from and about our talented alumnus in the future!
