The above email, headed “changing places,” is typical of Natalie Wong, with its unconventional syntax, its generous offer to help, and its sense of humor. Natalie worked half time as the senior artist for Geography for just over 2 years, but, alas, the Alumni Association recently bought her out with a full time position at much better pay.
As evidenced by the fliers and posters she turned out for the Department, as well as by the terrific job she did on the layout and graphics of our web site, Natalie brought a dazzling array of experience and talent to Geography. Not only had she been a graphic artist for the UCSB Alumni Association and the Marine Science Institute, but she was and still is the local art director of a major travel magazine and the principal of graphic design for Coyote Colorworks, a local full service design studio. On top of her graphic skills, Natalie has a background in Geography – she took courses in hydrology and remote sensing at UCSB and was a TA for GIS at SBCC. So how the heck did we get her to work for us in the first place? Well, typically, she volunteered. But you can’t live on applause. We’ll miss her.
