A Warm Welcome to Our New Grad Program Manager

Karen Barteld took over as our new Graduate Student Affairs Manager on October 22 and, as such, deals with graduate admissions, TA’s and fellowships, grad curricula, colloquia, alumni relations, newsletter coordination, and donor relations. Karen comes to us from the Graduate Division where she was the Academic Services Coordinator and was responsible for academic services relating to degree requirements. Prior to that, she was the graduate program assistant in the Linguistics Department. She has also worked at Raytheon and the County of Santa Barbara in administrative assistant positions.

Karen has lived in Santa Barbara most of her life, and she and her husband have two daughters (both in college), a dog, a cat, a bird, and two fish. Karen says she enjoys movies, music, traveling, books & poetry, chocolate, and champagne. Stop by and give her a warm welcome – and, no, you don’t have to give her chocolate and/or champagne as well (unless you’re a grad student and know what’s good for you)!
