Manny Silva recently joined our staff as an Administrative Assistant in charge of purchasing, expediting, travel, petty cash, shipping/receiving, recharges, equipment inventory, copier codes/service, mail distribution, and staff support for the Ocean Physics Lab. Originally from Veracruz, Mexico, Manny was raised in Goleta from age two, married a local girl (Alicia, pictured with Manny on a recent Christmas vacation in Manzanillo, Mexico), and has two sons, Adrian and Jacob, aged seven and two respectively.
Manny joined the Marines in 1999 and will end his active duty in October, leaving the service as a Marine Sergeant. His military background certainly qualifies him for his staff position, insofar as he was a Supply Clerk while stationed in San Diego from 1999 to 2002, a Warehouse Chief while stationed in Okinawa, Japan 2002-2003, and a Supply Chief in Pusan, Korea and San Diego 2003-2006. Not only does Manny have the experience, but he also has a BA in Business Administration from the National University in La Jolla, CA—and his mother is also a UCSB staff member which Manny says “makes this change a whole lot easier to adapt to”! I don’t think Manny needs to worry—he’s obviously both adaptable and adept, and we welcome him aboard!
