Bill Norrington, the UCSB Geography staff editor/writer for the past few years, is being put out to pasture, effective January 1, 2016. He’d like to thank the Department for putting up with him for so long and would like to say that it’s been an honor and a privilege to work with all concerned. Apart from kowtowing to the demands of his supervisors on his home front, i.e., his wife Val and his tenant Meryl Wieder (ex-MSO for Geography), Bill plans to continue pursuing his interest in “aquatic research” and devoting more time to his novel-in-progress, “Fifty Shades of Geography,” during his retirement.
Bill’s parting comment is inspired by graffiti. Someone wrote “To be is to do” on a wall and signed it “Socrates.” Under that, someone wrote “To do is to be” and signed it “Jean Paul Sartre.” Under that, someone wrote “Do Be Do Be Do” and signed it “Frank Sinatra.” Do Be Do Be Do, and cheers to all of you!
