Professor Keith Clarke just received the following email from Geography alumnus and noted local musician Justin Ratowsky. It’s for a good cause, so read on!
“I am sending this email to inform you that this Saturday June 19th I will be competing in “Project Save Our Surf” against team riders from Billabong, Hurley, Firewire, Electric, and Jacks in a 24 hour surf-a-thon to raise money for SURFRIDER, HEAL THE BAY, and The Orange County Board of Education Program INSIDE THE OUTDOORS. Project Save Our Surf was created with the objectives of raising awareness about and affecting direct change to the escalating dilemma of our polluted oceans. In light of the present ecological disaster in the Gulf, the timing could not be more on point.
Our event is now bigger than it’s ever been. And by taking place in California’s surf Mecca Huntington Beach – on International Surfing Day – it’s safe to say we will be garnering some major attention. It has become a bigger opportunity than anyone has imagined to make a statement about the importance of clean water for our future and life as we would like those who come after us to know it.
One of the ways PSOS affects direct change is by raising money that goes to our elected beneficiary organizations – who actually do the HARD WORK of cleaning our shorelines, lobbying the obstructionist powers that be, and informing/educating the next generation on the issues of clean water. So, WE NEED TO RAISE MONEY to make it happen, and make it successful!
Please help me and my teammates by donating to this great cause! To donate, click on this link, choose my name, Justin Ratowsky, and help our team “American Hi-Def” help heal the oceans. On a side note, my band will also be performing at the event @ 3:30pm. You can listen to my music here. Thank you for your time and your support!!–Justin Ratowsky”
