Tarek Rashed’s Dissertation Wins Gilbert White Award


Tarek Rashed, who earned his PhD through the joint program between San Diego State University and UC Santa Barbara in 2003, received the Gilbert White Award for the best hazards dissertation/thesis. Recipients of the White Award receive $500, a plaque, and an autographed copy of Dr. White’s two volume Geography, Resources, and Environment. Anyone who has completed a dissertation or thesis about natural or man-made hazards in the previous two years may apply. Rashed is the seventh to receive this award since it was first given in 1994. The award is from the Hazards Specialty Group of the American Association of Geographers (AAG). Congratulations, Tarek!
